Fibroids are noncancerous tumors of smooth muscle cells and fibrous connective tissue. These usually develop in the uterus during childbearing years. These benign tumors also called myomas are not associated with increased risk of uterine cancer and almost never convert to cancer. Usually they are asymptomatic initially and then develop symptoms like bearing down sensation, painful menses, painful coition, tenderness in lower abdomen, heavy menstrual bleeding, prolonged bleeding, frequent urination, dysuria, constipation, backache or muscular pains and sore legs etc. There may be spotting or bleeding between periods with anaemia.
